Al-Nassr Terminates Vincent Aboubakar’s Contract To Register Cristiano Ronaldo

Saudi Arabian club makes room for Portuguese star by releasing Cameroonian striker.

Saudi Arabian club Al-Nassr has reportedly terminated the contract of Cameroonian striker Vincent Aboubakar in order to make room for Cristiano Ronaldo in their squad, according to the Daily Mail. Saudi League rules allow clubs to register up to eight foreign players, and to include Ronaldo in their roster, Al-Nassr needed to release one of their current foreign players. Aboubakar and the club have reportedly mutually agreed to terminate his contract, with the striker set to receive compensation from the team.

Ronaldo will have to wait until January 21 to make his debut for Al-Nassr, as he is currently serving a suspension for an incident in which he smashed an Everton fan’s phone at Goodison Park in November. Ronaldo has already missed one game of his two-match ban, and will also sit out the match against Al Shabab on January 14. He is set to return to play in the 14th round of the Saudi Arabian League against Al Ettifaq on January 22.

In other news, Manchester United is reportedly interested in signing Aboubakar on a short-term deal, according to the Saudi publication OKAZ. The English team, currently fourth in the Premier League table, is in need of a backup striker following Ronaldo’s departure and views Aboubakar as a suitable option. However, they will face competition from Turkish club Fenerbahçe for the player’s signature.
