James Cameron has confirmed that he will be producing ‘Avatar 4’ and ‘5’ following the success of ‘Avatar: The Way of Water’, which has exceeded expectations at the global box office. In an episode of HBO Max’s ‘Who’s Talking to Chris Wallace?’, Cameron revealed that the film has crossed $1.5 billion at the box office, surpassing ‘Top Gun: Maverick’ as the highest-grossing film of 2022.
Cameron also shared that the film is on track to “easily” pass its break-even point, leading to the production of additional sequels. ‘Avatar 3’, already scheduled for release in 2024, is currently in post-production.
In addition to discussing the success of ‘Avatar 2’, Cameron also addressed rumors that the film needed to earn at least $2 billion. He stated that the actual number is “less” and that he had never given a specific target.
In an interview with the French newspaper 20 Minutes, Cameron also revealed that a new Na’vi clan centered around the fire would be introduced in ‘Avatar 3’.
Barring any delays, ‘Avatar 3’ is set to be released on December 20, 2024.
