Jon Hamm’s Marvel Dream: A Mad Men Star’s MCU Aspirations

Actor expresses desire to join superhero franchise.

In a recent chat with Screen Rant, Mad Men star Jon Hamm unveiled his eagerness to become part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). This comes after his near miss as the villainous Mister Sinister in a shelved sequel to The New Mutants.

Discussing the potential of his MCU debut, especially now that the X-Men have integrated into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Hamm, who also cameoed in an X-Men comic as himself, expressed, “I don’t know. Those decisions get made at such a high level at this point, definitely above my pay grade. I would love to. I’ve been a fan of Marvel Comics and comics in general since I was probably single digits. I think there are tons of stories that I’m familiar with, at least, that are still out there to be told.”

Optimistically, Hamm added, “Hopefully, whatever their plans are, they include me. But if not, I know that they have a pretty deep bench of folks who are ready to be a part of those stories. There are certainly a lot of stories in the X-Men world to be told. Fantastic Four as well, [like] Doctor Doom. There are so many great things out there. But yeah, I hope I get a chance. Who knows?”

Despite potential boosts from the X-Men and Fantastic Four franchises, the MCU faced a setback with its latest release, The Marvels. The film, hitting screens on November 10, recorded a meager $47 million (£38m) in its opening weekend in the US – marking the lowest debut for a Marvel Cinematic Universe movie since 2008’s The Incredible Hulk.
